The second FluxBEATS summer school, held from June 3 to 12, 2026 in Germany, was an important network-wide event that deepened participants’ training in both scientific and soft skills. The main organizer of the summer school was the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, and during the summer school, we even had the opportunity to spend a day on a research vessel. A total of ten doctoral researchers have been recruited to the FluxBEATS network at the end of 2025, and we are in full operation.
This 5th FluxBEATS newsletter includes the introductions from our doctoral researchers Shima, Ana Clara and Faez. In November 2025, one year has passed since the FluxBEATS doctoral network was launched.
A total of ten doctoral researchers have been recruited to the network and the first data are being gathered. In this newsletter, we will introduce four of them. The FluxBEATS summer school, held from September 9 to 16, 2025, in the town of Selfoss in southern Iceland was a combination of training and learning about Icelandic geology. Iceland was chosen for its accessible and visible processes related to divergent plate boundaries, which are central to FluxBEATS doctoral projects. In this newsletter, we are sharing the highlights of the summer school! 
The FluxBEATS doctoral network started in November 2024, and with this newsletter we are excited to introduce three doctoral researchers who have recently joined our team in Finland.
